MSAG Toolset#

The MSAG Toolset is designed to compare MSAG (Master Street Address Guide) and Telephone Number (TN) data against NG9-1-1 feature class data. This process ensures consistency between local addressing data and the NG9-1-1 dataset. The toolset consists of only one tool.

Note

As of v3.2.0, the telephone-address comparison has not been fully implemented and is not available.

The Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) is a database used by 911 systems that lists all valid street names, address ranges, and emergency service zones for a specific area. It ensures that when someone calls 911, the call is routed to the correct dispatch center and responders.

The MSAG is maintained by the local 911 authority or PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point), often in coordination with city or county addressing offices. When new neighborhoods are built or streets are renamed, those updates are submitted to the MSAG provider for that region.

Once changes are approved, the updated data is synchronized with the 911 system to keep address information accurate. The data can also be downloaded or shared with phone companies and emergency service providers to verify that caller addresses are valid and properly matched to their service area.

MSAG-NG911 Comparison#

This tool compares address ranges from an MSAG spreadsheet to a ROAD_CENTERLINE feature class. Ranges that are present in one but not the other are reported in an output issue table.

Usage#

../../_images/MSAGBlank.png
  1. Provide the NG911 geodatabase and MSAG spreadsheet.

  2. In the field mapping table that appears, map the MSAG Field Type labels to Spreadsheet Column options. If there is not a column in the spreadsheet that corresponds to a label, leave the dropdown set to <Null>. Some field types are required, however, and the parameter will display an error unless all required field types are mapped to spreadsheet columns.

  3. Set the location for the output geodatabase which will contain the results.

  4. Run the tool.

  5. In the output geodatabase, view the results in the table MSAG_Issues.
